2019 Harvest Hymn Sing

Each year, CEFC invites the community to come and sing hymns with us in the Fall season, (and some years again in the Spring).

Chewelah Harvest Hymn SingAlthough we, and many of the churches in town, sing lots of hymns during regular weekly services, sometimes we don’t get to sing our favorite ones very often. This event provides an opportunity for folks to request – and sing – their favorite hymns.

Because we always end up singing until nobody can sing anymore, we like to have special music interspersed through the evening to let people’s voices rest for a few minutes. This adds to the enjoyment of the fellowship time together with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

After the singing is finished, we gather in the fellowship hall and enjoy apple cider and treats.

Our new, larger sanctuary can seat up to 150, so there is plenty of room to bring family members and friends from around the community. And if you have a Sunday evening service at your church, you can always come for the beginning, then slip out when you need to!

THE HEBREWS 12 GROUP

Another new women’s study is beginning at CEFC. According to Joan Thompson, “We’re calling it the ‘Hebrews 12 Group’ because we’re focusing on ‘laying aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us’ in order to run our unique race of life.”

The study begins Tuesday, September 24, 7:00pm at Chewelah Evangelical Church and will go for about 10 weeks. You DON’T have to attend church in order to participate! ❤️

Along with the study (using “Be Transformed” by Scope Ministries), women will be learning about how the brain works, hormones, habits and practical ways to make real change. And yes, we’re your support group! For those interested in applying concepts to health and losing weight, we’ll be meeting at 6:30pm, prior to the study.

If you have questions, call or message Joan Thompson or attend the information meeting this Sunday following the church service (about noon) at Chewelah Evangelical Free church. Joan says, “I believe every person has a unique purpose, a calling in life. I’m excited to share how God has been freeing me up and I KNOW He is eager to free up anyone who is willing to reach out for truth and grace. 🌟”

CONTAGIOUS JOY – LADIES BIBLE STUDY

The ladies’ Bible study group, which will meet on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., will begin a new study on September 19th at the church. The group will be studying “Contagious Joy,” a Women of Faith video study series.

Please bring your favorite breakfast bread and fruit to share. Study books are $10.25 each and Katie Freeman will need your money by the 16th for your study book. If you have questions or need further information, please contact Kathy White or Katie Freeman.

ANNOUNCING OUR 2018 MISSION CONFERENCE

Fall is fast approaching, and it is near the time for our 3rd Annual Mission Conference at CEFC. This year’s morning session speaker/presenter will be one of the founders of Eternal Anchor, a mission serving special needs children and adults on the Baja Peninsula. The afternoon session speakers are Wayne and Loma Morris, who have served with New Tribes for two decades.

Austin Robinson had been scheduled to be the representative of Eternal Anchor. He will be receiving an award on the West side of the State the day of the conference, so one of the founders will be speaking in his place. We will miss him, but congratulate him on his award!

Wonderfully Made is this year’s theme, and Psalm 139:14 is the Scripture for this event. Several of the missionaries our church body supports will be in attendance and give presentations on their missions and ministries.

Eternal Anchor

Eternal Anchor Staff

Eternal Anchor, founded in 2014, is a loving home, school and community outreach program for children and adults with special needs in rural Baja California, Mexico. The staff and volunteers at Eternal Anchor work diligently to offer quality care to the children and adults in our programs. We work hard to empower and preserve families through education and training. And we spread God’s love and hope to our community through our example.

Eternal Anchor exists to reflect God’s hope and love to children and adults with special needs. Our vision is to see children and adults with special needs in our community celebrated and nurtured so they can reach their God-given potential.

Children that don’t have families to care of them are often tossed around from home to home and grow up without the love and stability they need to thrive. The name, Eternal Anchor, was chosen for its imagery. Amidst the chaos of life and the uncertainties of not being with family, our team wants to be that anchor of hope for children with special needs. And, because Christ is the Eternal Anchor for our souls (Hebrews 6:19), we want to share His eternal love and hope with children with special needs, as well as their families.

Wayne & Loma Morris (Papua New Guinea) – New Tribes Mission

SONY DSCTw

As an extension of the ministry of the body of Christ, twenty-three years ago we gave up our Council address to serve the expanding church in the country of Papua New Guinea (PNG). For many of those years, we served as a part of the administrative and leadership team for 400+ missionaries and their children. Since returning in 2012 for health reasons, Wayne has continued to assist his co-workers remotely and on trips to PNG. He advises, trains and works on projects required to keep the missionary team in PNG, furthering the planting and development of tribal churches. In 2015, co-workers in PNG reached a point in their equipping which permitting Wayne’s role to be adjusted to part-time. This has allowed time to assist and equip our local body of believers in our home community in Montana.

Those willing and able to serve the church in other countries has dropped significantly. It is our heart to encourage the church to be engaged in equipping and sending others. As the Lord provides someone to share teaching responsibilities in our church, we desire to share with other churches what God is doing through his church and encourage them to be engaged in sending others into the harvest.

Special Children’s Mission Time

New this year, children are being invited and encouraged to attend. During the afternon speaker/presentation, Pastor Robert and Cindy McDowall will take the children to the multi-purpose room for special missions-related activities.

Lunch will be provided, and there will be special music and a puppet ministry presentation!

Podcasts Now Available

Chewelah E Free podcastAt the request of one of our faithful church families, we did a little research and figured out how to offer the Chewelah E Free Sunday sermon as an audio podcast in addition to our regular mp3 player on this website.

We understand that not everyone can make it to church on any given Sunday (and frankly, if everyone was there, we wouldn’t all fit until the building addition is finished). Sometimes illness, work, or just plain life keeps folks from getting to listen to the pastor’s message. It has also been a valuable service for our “snowbirds” who live in the Southwest during the winter months.

Our sermon “hosting” site allows us to keep quite a large number of messages available. At some points, there are more than 80; although it is more typically about 50.

Back to the podcasts! We are currently able to offer podcasts on PocketCasts and on iTunes. Links for both are below the mp3 player in the Listen to Sermons page on this website. If you have other favorite listening applications, let us know and we can look into adding others.

The new mp3 player we are using also offers a tab called “Bible.” When you click on this, it will bring up the passage for that sermon in the New American Standard Bible. We are not able to offer more than one translation, so we went with one many of our congregation uses.

Our VBS Theme Verse is:
“He is the image of the invisible God,  the firstborn over all creation. For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible,  whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.”   Colossians 1:15-16
